AN INTERVIEW WITH STRIFY

There was a great concert of Cinema Bizarre in Moscow. Everyone is in delight. BRAVO MAGAZINE happened upon Strify backstage, and we talked very well about Manga and also we discussed Lady GaGa, with whom the group had combined tour not long ago.
BRAVO (B): in one of Russian fan-sites there was a very hot discussion about what your girlfriend should look like. There are a lot of estimates, that she should be brown-haired with long hair and certainly Russian or Frenchwoman. What can you tell about it? Have you got a girlfriend?
STRIFY (S): I am tired of this question. I have no girlfriend. I have a lot of friends and people, with whom I meet. But I have no sweetheart. Moreover, in the nearest future there won’t be any! I think, because of my profession, it will be too selfish to start love affairs. It will turn out nothing – I am constantly travelling, we are surrounded eternally with the people, all it demands considerable nerves for my part. What for to involve also the girl in it? For making her suffer and be jealous?
B: Listen, you have just disappointed lots of girls by your answer. Well, what is, that is…
S: But at this moment it is really so. But I confirm nothing. However, if I meet love, I will try, of course.
B: Through hearsay, your favorite book is “The Portrait of Dorian Grey”. How do you think, do you look like the main hero of this book?
S: I like this book , its plot long ago. And I consider, not only in me, but in any person there is a small part of Dorian Grey. Everyone has minutes of weakness, when we could agree on a covenant, as Dorian. I am a big fan of Victorian Epoch – it seems to me, that period was very interesting. Oscar Wild is a very good writer, I like to read his books: he has a very goo taste , even for that time. He thought in a very modern way.
B: Do you consider yourself as dandy? Aren’t you afraid to lose one day your youth and attraction? For example, if , you,God forbid, could fall into accident?
S: Well, I don’t know how much stylish I am! I like to look well, especially, it’s necessary for my profession, but I don’t panic, that something bad can happen with my appearance. Nobody is insured from accidents. I realize, that nobody is imperious over time. By the way, this is from “Dorian” – senescence! I live as I live, try to be thankful for each day I live, and we can’t decide what we will have ahead. It’s not for me to live, constantly thinking that you can fall into accident or something bad can happen with you.
B: Such guys like you very often suffer from megalomania. What do you do or how do you fight against it?
S: I am egocentric a little on a life. I am not absolutely selfish, but my own person is very important to me. Some people consider, that I have a megalomania because of this part of my character. This part has brought to me a discomfort in my life.
B: Can you give an example?
S: No, I can’t do it at once.
B: It’s known in Russia, that you are all in the group are fond of manga.
S: Before I liked manga very much, but I have read and watched nothing for a long time. But Yu is still a big fan of it. Manga made an impact on each of us and on the whole group.
B: So, did you leave manga, did you leave its heroes?
S: The interest to manga affected my character. But it doesn’t mean that I lost my mind of it. I can’t name heroes, who could “change my world”. But there are some comics, which I still read, for example, “Nana”. It’s talked about a girl, who played in rock-group. Music is very important for me in my life. The plot is the next: in a carriage of a train two girls met. They are both Nanas. One girl follows her boyfriend, another one – to form her own punk-group. The girls found common language in spite of contrast of their characters. They constantly meet each other everywhere, even in the flat, in which they both wanted to live. Since that moment the adventures of two girls with the same names began. I like Nana very much – the girl, who wanted to form punk-group.
B: When you write songs, does manga inspire you? May be, it can help to prompt subjects?
S: An inspiration can be taken from everywhere. For me, when I write songs very important is that, what I want to tell people in this song! We do an emphasis on a visual line. And all this makes strong impression. And may be, when people look at us or watch our shows, they draw a parallel between comics-manga. But I haven’t thought yet about to create something by comics.
B: What Russian groups have you already listened to? May be, did you like some of them?
S: I saw shows of different Russian musicians and singers, but if you ask me for name, I can name only t.A.t,U. They are famous all over the world.
B: Lately you had a common tour with Lady GaGa!
S: Yeees! It was a great experience for us! We went to her concert in Berlin, and then we met her backstage. The first thing she said us was we are all cuties and look like her ex-boyfriends!
We talked very well we found common language very fast. A day ago I called her and she said that she would like us to open her show. We write different music, but we have common features: “glam” style. Besides, this is a great chance to enter America.

C’è stato un bel concerto dei Cinema Bizarre a Mosca. Tutti sono contenti. BRAVO MAGAZINE è stato nel backstage con Strify, e abbiamo parlato molto riguardo i Manga abbiamo inoltre parlato di Lady GaGa, con la quale il gruppo ha fatto un tour non molto tempo fa.
B: In uno dei vostri fan-site Russi c’era una discussione riguardo l’aspetto che dovrebbe avere la tua ragazza. Ci sono molte idee, dovrebbe avere capelli castani e lunghi e di sicuro una ragazza Russa o Francese. Che puoi dirci a riguardo? Hai la ragazza?
S: Sono stanco di questa domanda. Non ho la ragazza. Ho molti amici e gente che incontro. Ma non ho un’innamorata. Inoltre, nel prossimo futuro non ce ne sarà! Credo, per la mia professione, che sarebbe troppo egoista cominciare una relazione. Non ci prenderei niente – Lavoro costantemente, siamo circondati sempre dalla gente, tutto questo richiede sforzi considerevoli da me. Perché includere anche la ragazza in questo? Per farla soffrire e ingelosire?
B: Sai, hai deluso moltissime ragazze dalla tua risposta. Bè, è questo…
S: Ma al momento questa è la verità. Ma non confermo niente. Comunque, se incontrassi l’amore, ci proverò, sicuramente.
B: Per sentito dire, il tuo libro preferito è “Il ritratto di Dorian Grey”. Cosa ne pensi, assomigli all’eroe principale del libro?
S: Mi piace questo libro, è ambientato a molto tempo fa. E credo, non solo in me, ma che in ogni persona c’è una piccola parte di Dorian Grey. Ognuno ha minuti di debolezza, quando vorremmo accettare un patto, come Dorian. Sono un grande fan dell’epoca Vittoriana – mi somiglia, quel periodo è stato molto interessante. Oscar Wilde è uno scrittore bravissimo, mi piace leggere i suoi libri: ha buon gusto, per quel tempo. Pensava in una maniera molto moderna.
B: Ti consideri elegante? Non sei preoccupato di perdere un giorno la tua gioventù e attrazione? Per esempio, se tu, Dio non voglia, avessi un incidente?
S: Bene, non so quanto sono alla moda! Mi piace apparire bene, soprattutto, è necessario per la mia professione, ma non ho paura, che qualcosa di brutto possa accadere alla mia apparenza. Nessuno è assicurato dagli incidenti. Ho realizzato, che nessuno è necessario più del tempo necessario. Ma, questo è dalla senescenza di Dorian! Vivo come vivo, cercando di essere riconoscente per ogni giorno che vivo, e noi non possiamo decidere cosa avremo in futuro. Non è da me vivere, pensando costantemente che si possono avere incidenti o che qualcosa di brutto possa succedere.
B: Molti ragazzi come te spesso soffrono di megalomania. Cosa fai o come combatti contro questo?
S: Sono un po’ egocentrico. Non sono assolutamente egoista, ma la mia persona è molto importante per me. Molta gente crede, che io sia megalomane per questa parte del mio carattere. Questa parte mi ha portato disagio nella vita.
B: Puoi farci un esempio?
S: No, per una volta non posso farlo.
B: E’ risaputo che tutti voi nel gruppo siete appassionati di manga.
S: Prima i manga mi piacevano tantissimo, ma non ho letto e guardato niente per molto tempo. Ma Yu ne è ancora un grande fan. I manga hanno avuto influenza in ognuno di noi e nel gruppo intero.
B: Così hai lasciato i manga, hai lasciato i loro protagonisti?
S: L’interesse per i manga ha influenzato il mio carattere. Ma non vuol dire che abbia perso la testa per loro. Non riesco a nominare eroi, che possono “cambiare il mondo”. Ma ci sono alcuni fumetti, che ancora leggo, per esempio, “Nana”. Parla di una ragazza, che suona in una band punk. La musica è molto importante per me nella vita. La trama è la seguente: in una carrozza di un treno si incontrano due ragazze. Si chiamano entrambe Nana. Una ragazza segue il suo fidanzato, l’altra per formare la sua band punk. Le due ragazze trovano un linguaggio comune nonostante il contrasto dei loro caratteri. Si incontrano costantemente ovunque, anche nell’appartamento, nel quale entrambe vogliono vivere. Da quel momento le avventure delle due ragazze con lo stesso nome cominciano. Mi piace molto Nana – la ragazza, che vuol formare la sua band punk.
B: Quando scrivi delle canzoni, i manga ti ispirano? Ti aiutano nel suggerirti dei soggetti?
S: Un’ ispirazione può essere presa da qualsiasi cosa. Per me, quando scrivo delle canzoni molto importante è, quello che voglio dire alla gente tramite la canzone! Mettiamo in risalto una linea visiva. E questo fa un’ impressione forte. E può essere, che quando la gente ci guardi o assista ai nostri show, che loro disegnino un parallelo tra i fumetti-manga. Ma non ho mai pensato di creare qualcosa dai fumetti.
B: Quali gruppi russi hai già sentito? Ti è piaciuto qualcuno di questi?
S: Ho assistito a diversi concerti di cantanti e musicisti russi, ma se mi chiedi i nomi, posso solo nominare le t.A.T.u. . Sono famose in tutto io mondo.
B: Recentemente avete fatto un tour in comune con Lady Gaga!
S: Siii! E’ stata una grande esperienza per noi! Siamo stati al suo concerto a Berlino, e dopo l’abbiamo incontrata nel backstage. La prima cosa che ci ha detto è stata che siamo molto carini e somigliamo ai suo ex ragazzi! Abbiamo parlato molto e abbiamo trovato subito un linguaggio comune. Il giorno dopo l’ho chiamata e mi ha detto che ci voleva per aprire i suoi concerti. Facciamo musica diversa, ma abbiamo punti in comune: lo stile “glam”. Inoltre, è stata una grande possibilità per entrare in America.
